The blossom is starting, I am in awe of how blossom is beautiful up close but as you step back it seems to get more and more beautiful. It almost reminds me of a book, each piece of blossom being the words on the page. Step back and the whole tree as one is the book. Beautiful individually but as one create something quite incredible. Each and every bit is needed to create the final masterpiece. The snow drops are in abundance, I love the way they move in the wind. I think it looks like they are shivering, which lets face it, generally in February we are too. Next time you pass some admire they way they move, it's quite special. Catch them quick. I was enjoying taking some photos of the snowdrops in the sunshine at the weekend when Acer took an interest.
Last weekend was pretty busy. The garden hasn't changed much. With busy weekends ahead it's unlikely the garden will have much attention again. The list of jobs is ever growing though and being March some jobs are getting pretty urgent. We have lots of wild flower seeds to sew at the very top of the garden. The plan is to sew them in sets, pessimistically in the hope conditions will be optimal for at least one set to grow, and optimistically to encourage a cannon of growth through summer. We need to paint the sleeper, jet wash the patio, get some small plants for the pots in the garden and some more for the bed. I would also love to grow some Chrysanthemum carinatum from seed. Often known as the Tricolor or Painted daisy these fabulous, showy flowers are colourful and look great in beds. But I've not even purchased the seeds yet. In time it will all get done.
Spring is nest building time for birds. They begin gathering objects they can use to make their nest. Any pruning in the garden that is being done in spring can be left out for the birds. Small sticks and twigs can be put into a pile and the birds will use them for nest building. Aim to use gloves while pruning if this is your intention as it will minimise your scent left on the twigs. Dog and cat fur can also be left out in the garden and birds will pick this up too. I'd imagine a nest build with some dog hair is more comfy than one without.
The weather has been more as you would expect for February this week, cold and rainy. Ryan bought me some Tulips for International Women's Day and I am enjoying them even more than I normally would while it is raining outside. They are such a beautiful flower and the colours are so vibrant. It is no wonder they earned a space in Monty Don's Jewel Garden. Click on the photo to have an explore of his Instagram.
If lockdown has taught me one thing, it is definitely enjoying the small things, no matter how small. And even though we see the light at the end of the tunnel now, I will forever take that lesson with me. What has lockdown taught you?
